Laparoscopy and Bilateral Inguinal Hernias

It is difficult to know the exact incidence of bilateral hernias in adults but, since the advent of laparoscopy, there have been several reports that show a significant increase. Currently we know that bilateral repair can be done simultaneously without increasing the recurrence rate, especially when mesh is used. Laparoscopic hernioplasty has shown to be effective in the early detection of con...

Bilateral Inguinal Hernias Containing Ovaries

Inguinal hernias are rare in females. The authors report a case of bilateral inguinal hernias in a 10-year-old female. On exploration, the patient was found to be having a sliding hernia containing incarcerated ovary as contents on both sides. Peroperatively the contents were reduced, the sac was transfixed at its base and the redundant sac was excised. The repair of this form of hernias is mor...

Laparoscopic totally extra-peritoneal hernia repair for bilateral Spigelian hernias and coincident inguinal hernia: A case report

INTRODUCTION Spigelian hernia (SH) is a rare ventral hernia occurring near the lateral border of the rectus muscle. The treatment remains controversial and depends on institutional expertise. Although laparoscopic surgery is a good adaptation for the repair of ventral hernias, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Here, we report a case of totally extra-peritoneal (TEP) repair ...

The two groups of patients were matched for age and sex. Both groups had a similar overall incidence of post-operative complications and in both groups the duration of post-operat...

COLLECTIVE REVIEWS Management of Recurrent Inguinal Hernias

The ultimate measure of success of inguinal hernia repair is the rate of recurrence. Although other procedure-related complications are important and have been shown to affect healthrelated quality-of-life parameters, recurrence is more challenging for the patients and the surgeon. From the patients’ perspective, the initial physical and mental investment in the operation has failed. A new inve...
